Landscape Art by Sue Scott
About
Grasmere Cumbria
I grew up in Manchester, with parts of my childhood spent in rural Herefordshire and Shropshire. Painting and drawing have always been part of how I experience the world.
In my twenties, I moved to Aberdeenshire, later returning to Manchester with a deeper appreciation for the contrast between rural and urban life. I became fascinated by architecture—the hard sparkle of Aberdeen granite against the warm terracotta of Manchester brick—and how landscapes hold memory and meaning.
More recently, I’ve turned my focus to rural scenes. After living in remote Scotland, I miss the rhythm of nature and the changing seasons. Painting these spaces helps me reconnect. I work mainly in acrylics, using bold colour and concentrated forms to reflect the unique palette of each landscape.
I often return to the Scottish Highlands—a place that feels like home and continues to shape my creative voice. The Lake District, North Wales, and the Peak District are also sources of inspiration, but the Highlands always call me back.
Thanks for viewing my work.

THE HOLLYBUSH PAINTING PRIZE 2021
This year I was lucky enough to be shortlisted for the Hollybush Emerging Woman Painter Prize, with my painting of China Lane Manchester. Myself and 22 other artists got through to the final.
The prize has been created to help support and promote female artists in a field where women are still underrepresented. You can see the finalists work and the main prize winners here.
